Sun Safety Tips May 5, 2015

Don’t let the beautiful sun leave you burnt.  Be sun safe and sensible!

  • Seek the shade, especially between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. Your shadow
is an indicator of the sun’s intensity. If your shadow is shorter than you
are (around midday), you are being exposed to high levels of UV
radiation. Seek shade and protect your skin and eyes.
  • Use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher every day.
  • Apply sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside.
    Reapply every two hours.
  • Cover up with clothing with a rating of UPF 40+, including a broad
brimmed hat and UV blocking sunglasses. Use a rash guard at your
favorite swimming hole. Hook & Tackle makes a line of excellent
    Sun Protection Clothing.
  • Avoid tanning and UV tanning salons.
  • Examine your skin head-to-toe every month for changes in size,
color, or texture of a mole, the development of a new mole, or any
other unusual changes; contact your physician if you notice any
    changes.
